Overview:

Kumbum Monastery in Xining and Labrang Monastery in Xiahe are renowned for Tibetan Buddhism. In the 5 days trip, you will visit the attractions from Lanzhou to Xining including Gansu Museum, Bingling Temple Grottos, Labrang Monastery, Dongguan Mosque, and Kumbum Monastery.

Day 1Lanzhou Arrival

Attractions: No

Hotel: Overnight in Lanzhou

Upon arrival Lanzhou, you will be met by the guide and transferred to the hotel located in the city downtown of Lanzhou, the capital of the Gansu province. You will walk along the Yellow River park in the afternoon if time permits.

Day 2Lanzhou- Linxia

Attractions: Gansu Museum, Liujiaxia Reservoir, Bingling Temple Grottoes

Hotel: Overnight in Linxia

After hotel breakfast, your guide will take you to visit Gansu Museum where there is must-see statue “Galloping Horsing On The Swallow” that was excavated in Wuwei in 1969, which is the token of China Tourism.
After the museum, you will take 3-hour ride to Linxia where you will take a speed boat to go across Liujiaxia Reservoir on the Yellow River to visit Bingling Temple Grottoes that was constructed from the 3rd century with amazing statues and frescos. Meanwhile the Grottoes are located beside imposing Stone Forest of the Yellow River(We will visit Stone Forest of the Yellow River if time permit, price does not include). It takes about 1.5-2 hours to visit here, then you will take the speed boat back to your vehicle.

Day 3Linxia - Xiahe

Attractions: Labrang Monastery

Hotel: Overnight in Xiahe

After hotel breakfast, you will be driven about 2 hours to Xiahe, Labrang in Tibetan Language. Labrang Monastery was founded in 1709 by the first Jamyang Shêpa, Ngawang Tsondru. It is Tibetan Buddhism’s most important monastery town outside the Tibetan Autonomous Region. There are hundreds of lamas studying in the monastery. You will walk along the monastery with your guide, and visit the most import temples here in the afternoon.

Day 4Xiahe - Xining

Attractions: Longwu Monastery

Hotel: Overnight in Xining

After hotel breakfast, you will be driven about 6 hours to Xining. You will visit Longwu Monastery on the way, which is a typical Tibetan Buddhism temple. The temple is filled with rare and valuable artifacts, as well as several imperial artifacts including seals used by the emperor of the Ming Dynasty. The temple has organically grown over its long history, what started as a prayer hall expanded to know include a scripture hall, an astronomy room, several courtyards as well as beautiful grounds.

Day 5Xining - Departure

Attractions: Kumbum Monastery
Meal: Not Included
Hotel: Not Included

You will be transferred to visit Kumbum Monastery(Also named Ta’er Lamasery) which is about 25 km from Xining. As birth place of Tsongkhpa who was the founder of Yellow Hat School of Tibetan Buddhism, Kumbum Monastery has impressive Buddha states, yak butter carvings etc. You will stay here for about 2 hours before transferring to Xining airport or Xining railway station where the trip concludes. Note: Please book your flight departing from Xining airport after 3 pm.
