Overview:

Xishuangbanna, situated at the south end of Yunnan province, is the perfect destination well combined with numerous animals, rich plants, tropical rain forest, profound Buddhist culture and Dai folk customs.  During this 6-Day Xishuangbanna and Pu’er Tour, you will immerse yourself in incredible nature, experience the ideal rainforest lifestyle, and feel the exotic charm of the banks of the Lancang (Mekong).

Day 1Jinghong(Xishuangbanna) Arrival

Attractions: No

Hotel: Ovenight in Jinghong City(Xishuangbanna)

Welcome to Xishuangbanna, the home of the Dai people! Upon arrival at Xishuangbanna Gasa Airport, the local guide and driver will meet you at the arrival hall. Transfer to your hotel in Jinghong city. The rest of today is free on your own to explore this southernmost city in Yunnan Province.

Tips: Starlight Night Market (also known as Gaozhuang Night Market) mainly caters to tourists. Good for shopping. 

Besides Starlight Night Market, there is another local market named Mekong Riverside Night Market, where local residence go often, good for hunting food (specially BBQ). Price cheaper than Starlight market. 

Day 2Jinghong(Xishuangbanna)

Atttractions and activities: Tropical Botanical Garden

Accomodation: Ovenight in Jinghong City(Xishuangbanna)

Drive outside the city for about 62km and 1 hour, you will arrive at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, the largest and most beautiful botanical garden in China with the largest collection of flowers and plants. This vast area is consisted of three parts (West Area + East Area + Green Stone Forest Area).

Today, you will visit the most beautiful gardens in West Area and the primitive tropical forest in East Area. 

Most of the highlights of this vast garden gather at its West Area. Visit every garden for lush patches of flora, you will lose track of time getting up close to the various collections of palms, orchids, ferns, bonsais, lotus, bamboo… You will also hit a small museum to learn tropical forest species and culture of this region. The visit at West Area could take 3 hours. 

In the afternoon, head for a 5km forest trekking at much larger and more primitive East Area. The trek usually takes 1 hour.

Note: If you are interested and still energetic, head to the 3rd part – Green Stone Forest for more trekking, it can take 1.5 hours. 

Back to the city after the visit and enjoy more vibrant night life. You can continue your visit at night market or go watch the famous <<Dai Performance Show>> (highly recommend)

Day 3Jinghong(Xishuangbanna)

Atttractions and activities: Manting Park, Mandiu Dai Village

In the morning, visit Mandiu Dai Village to discover the lifestyle of Dai people.

In the afternoon, visit legendary Manting Park, Xishuangbanna’s most famous landmark and the former royal garden of the Dai kingdom.

As legend says, the Dai Princess once visited the park and her soul attracted much by its beautiful scenery, hence Manting Park is also called Chunhuan Park by Dai locals, which means “Garden of the Soul”. 

In this complex with a history of 1,300 years, you will be able to relive the splendor and pageantry of the past in every Buddhist statue, towering spire, vacant monastery and beautifully designed lake. And you will find the best examples of Dai Buddhist architecture in the park – the Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion and Manfeilong White Tower.

As you walk further to the back gate of Manting Park, awe-inspiring golden monasteries of Zongfosi Temple will leap to your eyes one after one. Zongfosi Temple isn’t your usual Buddhist temple, indeed, it was once an exclusive temple of Dai Kings in history. And it has long been the vital heart of Xishuangbanna Buddhist worship, ranking higher than all other temples in Xishuangbanna. The temple worships more than 25 states of Buddhas, including a remarkable 2.5-meter-high golden statue of Sakyamuni Buddha. More than 80 monks now study here. As you approach those mystical monasteries, you will hear tranquil sounds of their chanting.

Day 4Jinghong - Pu’er

Atttractions and activities: Wild Elephant Valley, Taiyanghe Forest Park

Accomodation: Ovenight in Pu’er

Visit Wild Elephant Valley. Experience walking with a mother elephant and her calf peacefully in the rainforest and feeding them. Enjoy an “elephant meal” (the vegetables and fruit in the meal are elephants’ favorite).

Head for Pu’er in the afternoon. Explore Pu’er Taiyanghe National Forest Park to meet lovely animals: red pandas, deer, lazy lorises, and rhinoceroses. Peek into the forest at night and look for the amazing insects. 

Day 5Pu’er

Atttractions and activities: Tea Plantation Hiking, Coffee Farm Visit  
Meal: Not Included
Accomodation: Ovenight in Pu’er

Learn about the famous Chinese tea, Pu’er tea, during a plantation visit. Unlock the knowledge of Chinese tea and the history of the Tea-Horse Road. Have lunch in the tea plantation restaurant and enjoy some special dishes cooked with tea in.
An exclusive feature of this trip is a visit to a coffee farm. Listen to the stories about Yunnan coffee and see the cultivation and manufacturing process — from the coffee berries on the tree to the fragrant coffee in your cup.

Day 6Pu’er - Departure

Today is free for you until your tour guide and driver escort you to the airport in time for the scheduled flight. Tour ends.
